Everywhere they go, people expect Wi-Fi coverage for their mobile devices. Hospitals and retailers are tracking equipment, personnel and patients with real-time location systems. Businesses are using radio frequency (RF) systems for automatic identification of assets, tracking and other data collection. Codes now require buildings to provide booster systems for first responder emergency radios where signals are low.
This article will explore the cabling infrastructure for wireless systems most used by design professionals: Wi-Fi, which affects nearly all users, and Emergency Responder Radio, because new codes and regulations (such as NFPA 72 and NFPA 1221) make this system a possibility in every new building and major renovation.
