COLUMBUS METROPOLITAN LIBRARY NORTHSIDE BRANCH
Korda provided civil and structural engineering and surveying services for this City of Columbus Metropolitan Library Northside Branch. The development included a new 25,000 SF library that replaced an existing 8,000 SF building, an expanded surface parking lot, and landscaping amenities. The new facility provides a larger community gathering space, a more diverse student help center and children’s programs, and generally meets the needs of a rapidly changing neighborhood. The development provides bioretention landscaping to manage site and roof Stormwater runoff in an environmentally responsible way. Stormwater management strategies also included a buried detention beneath the parking lot, thus maximizing much needed parking facilities. The library also engages the vibrant North High Street corridor through a cantilevered building design. Roadway and streetscape plans and details, including handicap ramps to safely cross High Street were also included as part of the City’s permitting requirements.
