COLUMBUS METROPOLITAN LIBRARY – PARSONS BRANCH

As the role of libraries change in American society, the Columbus Metropolitan Library (CML) system has embarked on upgrading or replacing several of their branch libraries. CML understands that their branch libraries in select neighborhoods are the only portal these residents have to the internet. As a result of this, technology is a vital component in the design of the Parsons branch.

Korda’s technology engineers have designed a Wide Area Network (WAN) that connects each branch with one another. We have also designed video systems with HD-ready projectors and flat panel LED monitors in small conference and workrooms to enable users to collaborate with one another on-site, and virtually. Finally, access control systems are installed to properly maintain security of certain areas while still allowing the public free access to the facility during normal operating hours.

Energy conservation is a primary goal for CML, so our design uses Variable Refrigerant Flow (VRF) systems for the HVAC system. This system is designed to use 30% less energy than the baseline system outlined in ASHRAE 90.1. The VRF system provides zone control, and a dedicated, 100% outside air unit with heat recovery is used to supply the required ventilation air at a lower energy usage as well.
