ODNR Greater Council State Park

Great Council State Park, located in the Oldtown area of Xenia Township is one of Ohio’s newest parks and is a celebration of Native American and European settler history, specifically paying tribute to Tecumsesh, the iconic Shawnee leader and folk hero, Daniel Boone and Simon Kenton.  Korda provided full-service engineering services for this 12,000-square-foot, 3-story interpretive center designed like a historic Shawnee longhouse.

Included within the building are numerous hands-on exhibits bridging past and present. Upon entering the building,  visitors are greeted by a living stream running through the main floor alongside a theater, exhibits, a welcome desk, gift shop, and restrooms. The site includes native grasses and pathways that resonant with the natural setting of a Shawnee village.

The Ohio Department of Natural Resources, partnered with the Shawnee Tribe, Eastern Shawnee Tribe of Oklahoma and Absentee Shawnee Tribe while developing the center.

  • Designed to resemble historic Shawnee longhouses
  • 12,000 SF
  • Partners with several Shawnee Indian Tribes
