The Ohio State University North Residential District Transformation

The Ohio State University engaged Korda Engineering to design the infrastructure needed to support the development of the North Residential District. This project added 3,200 beds of new student housing plus dining and recreation facilities to create a new neighborhood serving nearly 6,000 student residents. Korda designed the utility distribution plan including preliminary utility sizing and sanitary and storm water management plans. To accomplish this, our team of engineers closely coordinated with the City of Columbus on issues involving city utilities or site development regulations. The combination of varied building types, including high-rise structures, coupled with the need to incorporate sustainable and green technology approaches required substantial consideration as the infrastructure developed. Korda’s engineers worked with the rest of the team to develop the system configuration descriptions for the heating hot water, chilled water, domestic water, fire protection, and emergency generator systems. These narratives served as the guidelines for the systems implemented into the final building designs.
